Kia Syros A New Compact SUV Experience Tailored For India

Kia India has unveiled the all-new Kia Syros, a sub-4 metre compact SUV tailored specifically for the Indian market. This model marks Kia's second foray into the sub-compact SUV segment in India, following the Sonet. The Syros is available in six variants: HTK, HTK (O), HTK Plus, HTX, HTX Plus, and HTX Plus (O), with prices starting at ₹8.99 lakh (ex-showroom). Bookings commenced on January 3, 2025, with a booking amount of ₹25,000, and deliveries are slated to begin in mid-February.

Design and Dimensions

The Syros showcases a fresh and bold design, drawing inspiration from Kia's global models like the Carnival, EV3, and EV9. It features a boxy, upright profile with vertically stacked LED headlamps positioned at the edges of the bumper. These headlamps house three LED projector units and a distinctive drop-down LED daytime running light design, reminiscent of the new Carnival. The front fascia presents an almost sealed appearance, giving it an EV-like aesthetic, with integrated air intakes in the blacked-out lower section, accented by contrasting silver trim.

In terms of dimensions, the Syros measures 3,995mm in length, 1,800mm in width, 1,665mm in height, and boasts a wheelbase of 2,550mm. Compared to the Sonet, it is 10mm wider, 55mm taller, and has a 50mm longer wheelbase, offering enhanced interior space. The boot capacity stands at 465 litres, a significant increase over the Sonet's 385 litres.

Interior and Features

Inside, the Syros offers a premium experience with a completely new dashboard layout. It features dual 12.3-inch displays for the infotainment system and instrument cluster, which Kia claims combine to form a 30-inch display. The SUV also gets a new two-spoke steering wheel inspired by the EV3, along with a center console that includes a wireless charging pad. The dashboard incorporates a strip of physical switches for the HVAC controls, discreetly integrated AC vents, and horizontal design lines enhanced by ambient lighting.

The Syros is equipped with a host of advanced features, including:

  • Wireless Android Auto and Apple CarPlay
  • Over-the-air (OTA) updates
  • Connected car technology
  • Ventilated front seats
  • Powered driver's seat
  • 8-speaker Harman Kardon sound system
  • Panoramic sunroof
  • Electronic parking brake
  • Reclining and sliding second-row seats with centre armrest and a 60:40 split-folding function
  • Six airbags
  • 360-degree camera
  • Level 2 Advanced Driver Assistance Systems (ADAS), including adaptive cruise control, automatic emergency braking, lane keep assist, and blind-spot monitoring.

Engine and Performance

The Syros offers two engine options:

  1. 1.0-litre, 3-cylinder turbo-petrol engine: Delivers 120hp and 172Nm of torque, paired with either a 6-speed manual or a 7-speed Dual-Clutch Transmission (DCT).

  2. 1.5-litre, 4-cylinder turbo-diesel engine: Produces 115hp and 250Nm of torque, available with either a 6-speed manual or a 6-speed torque converter automatic.

  3. These engines are shared with other models in the Hyundai-Kia lineup, ensuring proven performance and reliability.

With its combination of modern design, advanced features, and versatile engine options, the Kia Syros aims to set a new benchmark in the compact SUV segment in India.
